Craftsmanship That Runs in the Family

At Werner Harmsen, every custom piece begins with an idea—and a craftsman who loves bringing it to life.
Our in-house carpenter grew up surrounded by sawdust, tools, and a love for building that started generations ago.
“I was drawn to carpentry and woodworking by my grandpa,” he says. “He brought me to jobs as a kid and let me help in his shop. I loved helping him fix up and restore old furniture, and making new pieces from scratch.”
That early inspiration turned into a lifelong passion for creating furniture and cabinetry that blend beauty, function, and craftsmanship.
The Projects That Inspire Us

“I really enjoy making tables—dining tables, coffee tables, end tables. I’ve made a few epoxy river tables, and they’re always challenging. Once you pour the epoxy, there’s no going back—you’ve got one shot to get the color right and the wood prepped perfectly.”

These details make every project a balance of creativity and precision—a true collaboration between design and craftsmanship.
Why Choose Custom?

“We really can do anything. If there’s a piece you have in mind and can’t find it in a catalog, we can probably make it!”

That’s the power of having a custom carpenter on staff—you’re not limited to factory-made furniture or preset dimensions.
Each project is designed, built, and finished specifically for your home.

Materials That Tell a Story
“I love working with walnut and elm wood. They’re naturally beautiful and don’t need any stain or coloring. They’re durable hardwoods that hold up to heavy use.”

“We always include the customer in picking out slabs if it’s a table top. We hand-pick each piece of wood to make sure it all blends together nicely.”

Each custom piece is made from high-quality materials—no particle board, no shortcuts, just craftsmanship that lasts for generations.
Handmade vs. Mass-Produced
“The benefit of handmade furniture is that it truly is one of a kind. There won’t be any particle board in it. The best materials will be used, and you can know that it was made with care.”

Custom pieces are built to last—made with hardwood, not pressed board—and finished to complement your flooring, cabinetry, and home design.

A Carpenter's Dream Project
“I plan to make some custom bed frames for my kids!”

That’s what drives every custom project we do: creating pieces that make your home feel more like yours.
